What is an MOT test

If you wish to keep a vehicle on the road it is required by law that it be kept in a roadworthy condition. The purpose of an annual MOT test is to check that the vehicle meets the current road safety and environmental standards. If your vehicle is over 3 years old then you are obliged by law to have an MOT test on your vehicle each year.

An MOT test can be carried out on your vehicle up to one month prior to the expiry date of your current MOT certificate. If you take advantage of this then new MOT will commence from the expiry of the current MOT certificate rather than the date which the test was carried out.

How long does the MOT test take

The MOT test typically takes around 45 minutes but please allow up to 1 hour in case of minor repairs that may be required.

Types of vehicles we MOT test

We currently MOT classes 1, 2, 4 and 7. Class 1 and 2 cover motorbikes, class 4 covers cars, motor caravans, quads, private hire vehicles and class 7 is for goods vehicles over 3,000kg to 3,500kg gross weight.

What does an MOT test check

The MOT test is designed to ensure that your vehicle meets the latest road safety and environmental standards. Please note an MOT certificate is not a guarantee of the general mechanical condition of your vehicle and we advise that you have your vehicle regularly serviced to maintain its mechanical condition.

During the MOT test should we find that your vehicle needs a little help to pass then we can generally conduct the repairs either same day or a nominated day of your choosing. Any repairs and subsequent charges will be notified upfront so there are no nasty surprises when you pay the bill!

Help your vehicle pass its MOT test

Many MOT test failures we encounter could have been avoided with a little maintenance beforehand. Simple checks such as ensuring all light bulbs are working, tyre tread and pressure are all legal and correct, windscreen wipers working etc.

If your vehicle fails the MOT test

If for any reason your vehicle fails the MOT test then by law it must be repaired and retested which means you are not legally allowed to drive your vehicle on the road until the repairs have been made, MOT retested and issued with a MOT certificate. If this does happen, we will provide you with a competitive quotation to get your vehicle through the MOT test.
